We improve and refine the surfaces of your products and prototypes.
Using different techniques we can provide coatings on almost each substrate material.
Metals, alloys, ceramics and polymers can be coated on almost each substrate. Surface morphologies can be systematically changed and manipulated on µm and nm scales. Powerful methods are deposition out of a gas phase (CVD, PVD, Sputtering), ion assisted deposition (IBAD), plasma enhanced CVD and PVD, sol-gel methods, electrogalvanization and combined methods.
Tribological coatings
For wear protective or low friction coatings, aside of adhesion, the mechanical film properties (hardness, intrinsic stress) are of major importance. Here our ion assisted deposited coatings show their advantages: low thickness, excellent adhesion and high density. Examples are low friction carbon coatings, hard chrome- and titanium nitride coatings, super hard cubic boron nitride coatings or silicon- and tantalum carbide coatings.
Optical coatings
Films for use in optical applications can be grouped in few classes:
transparent, conductive coatings (TCO), today widely used in flat screen displays and solar panels
passive optical coatings and complex coating systems, which are able to selectively gate out or reflect wavelength ranges.
active optical coatings (thermochrome, electrochrome), which optical properties can be reversibly changed by thermical or electrical control.
Transparent, scratch-resistant coatings, which can, being coated on glass or plastics, considerably prolong the substrates lifetime.
Barrier coatings
Barrier coatings shall prevent the diffusion of chemical agents through a surface. Examples are the coating of boxes against oxygen diffusion or the metallization of polymer products to achieve electrical conductivity or electromagnetical shielding. The techniques used at Limedion allows us to provide dense coatings with excellent adhesion which can be coated at temperatures below 150°C. This destines them for the use on polymers.
Corrosion protective coatings
In compare to the traditional dipping and electrochemical coatings processes, PVD gains more and more in importance. During the coating process the substrates can be simultaneously treated by a plasma or ion beam to change some material properties. Using this techniques it is possible to coat a wide variety of elements, compounds and alloys on almost each surface and to specifically vary material properties. The introduced energy is deposited by the ions only in the first surface layers whereas the substrate itself stays almost cold. Excellent corrosion protection is already achieved with much thinner coatings compared to classical processes which can save a lot of the often very expensive coating materials.
Bio-compatible coatings
Coatings on medical implants like stents and catheters or on biomedical sensors are meant to improve their bio-compatibility or to change the functionalization. Our methods allow us to provide bio-compatible coatings which e.g. can serve as a reservoirs for medical drugs on implants, or protect sensitive bio-sensors.
