Research topic: battery technology

Limedion - batterieforschungYou would like to improve the power and live time of you Lithium-ion-batteries ?

We would like to assist you. In years of research on the topic of rechargeable batteries we gained a comprehensive experience which we would like to share with you.

Among other things we are developing alternate materials and additives to improve the power-properties of Li-ion-batteries. We use new materials to replace the common used lithium cobalt oxide and use additives to modify and enlarge the surfaces. The characterization is performed in power-run-tests, in electro chemical measurements, by microscopy, infra-red spectroscopy and XPS/AES analysis..

The rocking-chair-principle

The Li-Ion-battery works according to a principle of a rocking chair. During charging Li-ions are injected to the electrolyte from the active material of the cathode (e.g. lithium coblat oxide). The electrolyte which itself contains Li-ions transports the ions to the negative electrode (e.g. graphite), where they form intercalation compounds.
During discharge the the process reverses: the intercalated Li-ion emits an electron to the graphite electrode and gets finally inserted to the metal oxide. The electrons travel through the outer circuit during charging and in reverse direction during discharging. This “rocking” of the electrons gives the name to the process.
