Limedion is working on three emphases of research: the filament, the bulb surface and the gas composition.
The challenge on working with lamps containing a filament is the need for a perfect balance of the chemical an physical properties of the filament materials with the chemical compounds used in the filling gases. In addition safety and operational restrictions have to be taken into consideration.
Light quality and colour temperature are determined in detail with the use of emission spectrometers. Additionally changes in the filament geometry and temperature changes along the filament surface are mapped in detail with infra red cameras. Long time resistance and efficiency changes as well as the lifetime determinations are carried out in multiple parallel measurement units..
After the test runs, the mechanical properties as well as structural changes in the surface are investigated with the laser scanning confocal microscope or for more detailed information in our scanning electron microscopes. Changes of the chemical composition in the surface top layers are observed with photo electron spectroscopy (XPS) and auger electron spectroscopy (AES).
Information about the chemical processes in the gas phase as well as their dynamics during operation can be collected by infra-red spectroscopy. Components generated and condensed at the bulb during operation can be analysed by XPS and AES after the experiment.
